Players have just completed the remaining time that was left in Level 24, and they are now on a quick (10) minute break. The action will return with Level 25, and blinds increasing to 15,000/30,000/4,000 (1,313,000 chip average). The are a handful of very short stacks that will surely be pushing their chips forward when play returns, with Gordon Shackelford (Fredericksburg, VA) coming back to a stack of less than (4) big blinds. With the tournament area empty, it gives us an opportunity to collect updated chip counts, which will be posted shortly.

After Iaran Lightboure limped UTG at Table 1, action would fold around to Hakan Demircioglu on the button. He would flat as well, with Zo Karim raising to 220,000 out of the small blind. Iaran folded behind, with Hakan then looking up at the dealer and verbalizing himself all-in (just under 300,000). Zo took a stack of chips and put them across the line, and Hakan would be at risk for his tournament life. Demircioglu would be racing with {8s} {8c} agains Zo’s {ad} {jh}, with the board running out {kh} {5s} {4c} {2h} {7d}.
Hakan’s count would be 292,000, and he would double up to over 680,000. Hakan started the day with over 1,000,000, but lost a sizable pot to Richard Munro moments prior.

Total Entries: 1,226
Players Remaining: 28
Chip Average: 1,313,000
The action at Table 2 would fold to Darren Elias on the button, who opened the pot to 50,000. Vincent Jacques three-bet to 141,000 from the small blind, with Darren four-betting to 325,000. After a few moments of thought, Jacques shoved all-in for just over 1,000,000, with Darren calling fairly quickly:
Jacques: {ad} {4d}
Elias: {as} {kh}
Flop: {qs} {2s} {2c}
Turn: {js}
River: {9d}
Vincent would flop a few extra outs to a chop, but the turn and river ended up bring no help. Jacques left the board room as the third player eliminated in this early Day 4 play, adding $15,109 to his career earnings of $704,175. Vincent has finished runner-up in the PokerStars Canada Cup $3,300 Main Event earlier this May, earning himself $235,721.

“Skrill champion…Skrill champion,” Cornel Andrew Cimpan exclaimed as Jake Vo (Quincy, MA) stood and watched his final hand play out. Scott Matte opened the pot to 60,000, with Kane Kalas calling from the hijack, and Jake Vo moving all-in for his remaining 773,000. Matte would ask for a count before re-shoving for about 1,000,000 more, with Kalas quickly folding behind. It would be the {ac} {kh} of Vo against Matte’s {qd} {qc}. The board would runout {8d} {7c} {3c} {10d} {10h}, and Vo would be the first player eliminated from Day 4 play ($15,109). That would leave Andrew Cornel Cimpan as the final Skrill last longer player remaining, earning him his $3,500 buy-in back as part of the promotion (from 75 total promotion entries).
Only moments later, Matt Glantz (Lafatette Hills, PA) would be eliminated in 30th place ($15,109), as his {ad} {2c} couldn’t come from behind against the {5h} {5d} of Scott Matte.

Day 3 of the 2014 WPT Borgata Poker Open had many different story lines unfold throughout the day, but by the end of the day, one man grabbed all of the spotlight. There was a money bubble early in the afternoon, past winners making runs at another Borgata title, and a host of other notables who came and went over the course of the day, but in the end, Day 2 of the Borgata Poker Open ended up being all about Jean Gaspard.
Jean Gaspard (Evanston, IL) started Day 2 with 302,000, but steadily climbed up the leaderboard, seemingly winning any critical pot that he entered. When the final second ticked off the last level of the day, Gaspard had put a lot of separation from the rest of the field, bagging up 5,464,000. His next closest competitor Blake Bohn, sits on 2,951,000. If you remember yesterday’s coverage, Blake missed about (45) minutes of action after the bubble burst, when he needed medical attention. Rounding out the top three is Zo Karim, who ended the day with 2,260,000. There are 31 players returning at 12:00pm for Day 4, which is scheduled to play down to the televised final table (6-handed).
Bobby Oboodi is a former champion of this event, and his dream to win a second Borgata Poker Open title is still alive, but he will be back with one of the shorter stacks at 371,000. Regardless of how his stack looks at the moment, he did outlast last year’s champ Anthony Zinno, who made the money, but was eliminated in 65th place.
When play began on Day 2, there were 150 players in the running, 120 of which were going to be getting paid. The bubble burst courtesy of Tom Dobrilovic, who ran top pair into an overpair to go out in 121st place. Some of the notables who made the money included Mukul Pahuja (104th), Ebony Kenney (91st), Russell Thoma (86th), Mike Sexton (85th), John Racener (62nd), Dan O’Brien (53rd), Jamie Kerstetter (52nd), and Ryan Riess (39th). That doesn’t mean that Day 4 doesn’t bring back a myriad of notables, including Cornel Cimpan, Darren Elias, Justin Zaki, Barry Shulman, Erik Cajelais, Matt Glantz, and Kane Kalas.
Once all of the Day 3 action had wrapped up, there was still some unfinished business being handled for those remaining in Event 22. It was just hours ago that Ted Ely (New York, NY) won his first ever Borgata Poker trophy, besting Reggie Lopez (Dominican Republic) heads-up to win the title and $45,755.
Event 23 kicks of the action today (which has moved to the main poker room), with this $300 + 40 Deeper Stack No Limit Hold’em event expected to once again attract a sizable field. All of the action begins at 11:00am, and you can follow everything throughout the day, here on the Borgata Poker Blog!!!
