Table 10 has turned into a rematch of last year’s Borgata Poker Open Championship finale.
Guo Liang Chen and Greg Weber were the last two players battling for the 2017 WPT BPO Championship title. Guo managed to overcome a ~2:1 chip lead to take the title and more than $789,000. Greg had to settle for second place and $471,059.
Both of these players are sharing the felt on table 10 and probably experiencing a bit of déjà vu.
There’s a lot of poker to be played before this event’s final table is reached on Saturday, but both of these players have proven they’ve got what it takes to get there.

Players are back from their break and play has resumed. Flight A may be the smallest of the five starting flights, but it’s got some big names in action.
One familiar face spotted early today is that of 2015 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe McKeehen. After winning more than $7.6 million, he’s gone on to rack up 13 six-figure cashes and another seven-figure score. Altogether his lifetime earnings have exceeded $15.5 million.

End of level 4 and time for the first break of the day. During this break, the green 25 chips will be colored up and removed from play.
Our temporary tournament area is just steps away from the escalators that take players down to the MarketPlace Eatery where they can grab a drink and a bite to eat. They can bring their goodies back to the tournament area as eating at the tables is permitted.
For those who must, the nearest smoking area is outside. The North Entrance that leads to the surface lot is also just steps away from our temporary tournament area. The Race and Sports Book is now a non-smoking area!

Borgata Poker has implemented the “Big Blind Ante” for all No Limit Hold’em tournaments during this BPO series, with the exception of the SixMax (Event 14).
Instead of each player at the table anteing 25 and the dealer having to sort out who has posted and who hasn’t, and collect all the antes, making change where necessary, a single player in the big blind will post the antes for the table. The amount of the Big Blind Ante is always the same amount as the Big Blind and the number of players at the table is irrelevant. This simplifies the ante process immensely and keeps the game from slowing down once the antes kick in.
Now the player in the big blind will post 200 for the blind and another 200 for the table’s antes. If the player in the big blind doesn’t have enough chips to cover both, his/her chips go toward the Big Blind first, then any chips remaining go toward the BB Ante.

Jetmir Sulaj’s stack is soaring to new heights early. He’s more than doubled his starting stack and is playing more than 60,000.
In an earlier hand, his pocket Queens held against pocket 4s. Then more recently, three players got all-in on the turn with a board of K J T 2 with three hearts. After the river bricked, Jetmir’s J2 (two pair) had beat both AK and AJ.

One of Borgata’s most familiar regulars is Andrew Klein and today he’s playing injured. He ruptured his achilles playing basketball and is wearing a boot and riding a knee walker scooter to get around.
He’s confident he’ll be able to rehab it and get back on the court. For now, it’s not affected his ability in this game, as he was stacking chips when I went by.
Andrew’s got five Borgata titles, three of which were in Open series events. His most recent win was in the 2017 Summer Poker Open $260 Deep Stack NLH event, earning $28,500 in an adjusted payout agreement.

The 2018 Borgata Poker Open Kick-Off Event is officially underway with Flight A! We’re in the temporary tournament area situated between the Poker Room and the Signature Room.
There are five starting flights in this event, spread out over three days:
1A: Today, 11am
1B: Wednesday, 11am
1C: Wednesday, 5pm
1D: Thursday, 10am
1E: Thursday, 7pm
With Labor Day Weekend in the rear-view mirror, it’s time for some serious poker. Players in Flight A are staring down the barrel of seventeen 30-minute levels before they bag up for the night (about 8:30pm). Those lucky enough to get the infamous plastic bag today will be able to take two days off before returning for Day 2 on Friday.
All players begin with 25,000-chip Deep Stacks and this is an unlimited re-entry and best-stack-forward event. Registration for each flight closes at the start of Level 13 — for this flight that will be at about 5:45pm.
As you may or may not have heard, the 2018 Borgata Poker Open will be running in a new temporary tournament area. Instead of the Event Center where we have been in the past, BPO tournaments will be running on tables in the Signature Room, the Poker Room, and a new Tournament Area in between.
The slot machines have been removed from this area and poker tables are in. This new setup is just for this series and in January we’ll be back in the Event Center for the 2019 Winter Poker Open.
This new tournament area is perfectly situated between Bread and Butter on one side and the escalator to the Marketplace Eatery on the other, giving players quick and easy access to refreshments. It’s also just a few steps to the Race and Sports Book for those who need to place a bet and the North Entrance, for those who need to step outside for some fresh air.
Online registration is closed, but on-site registration begins at 12 noon Monday, September 3rd and will remain open until midnight. Beginning Tuesday, registration will be open from 8am to midnight daily throughout the series at the Cashier windows across from the entrance to Bobby Flay’s.

The end of August is near which means it’s time to start making your plans to join us for the 2018 Borgata Poker Open. Always one of our top festivals, we can expect big crowds with massive prize pools.
The series starts on September 4 and features 23 tournaments over 18 days with more than $6.5 million in guaranteed money up for grabs.
We are going big from the very beginning and the series opens with the $540+$60 buy-in Deepstack Kick-Off event. The tournament has a huge $1.5 million guaranteed prize pool with five starting flights over the first three days. Marshall White captured this title in 2017 and walked away with more than $330,000.
Other notable tournaments on the schedule include the $1 Million Guarantee Almighty Stack, the 5th Annual Mike Sica Memorial Seniors Charity Event benefitting the Gilda Club, and an “Old School No Limit Hold’em” Freeze-Out.
But all eyes will be looking forward to the headline event on the schedule. The World Poker Tour makes a return to The Borgata and the $3,300+$200 buy-in Championship will put up another $3 Million in guaranteed money. The five-day tournament has two starting flights and the final table will be live-streamed in front of the WPT cameras.
This is a change from the setup in year’s past. For this WPT season, the Borgata Poker Open Championship final table will be live-streamed instead of recorded for television and the 2019 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship will be televised instead of live-streamed. There will still be plenty of face time in front of the cameras.
Last year’s WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship was won by Guo Liang Chen and he took home $789,000 after a tough heads-up battle against Greg Weber to put his name on the WPT Champions Cup.
Another revision to the past setup will be the location of this year’s Borgata Poker Open events. There will no longer be the long hike up to the Event Center to play your tournaments. For this series, we are opening the Poker Tournament Zone for this series, an area conveniently located between the Poker Room and Signature Room with quick access from anywhere in the casino and only a short escalator ride to The Marketplace Eatery. This is a temporary adjustment and we will soon be back to business as usual in the Event Center.
We look forward to seeing our locals and regulars back in action while battling against the best the poker world has to offer.
