Event 4: Fifth Level Action

POSTED BY: cmurray

|CATEGORY: 2018, Event 4, Event 4 (Day 1)

$400+$50 H.O.R.S.E.
$25,000 Guaranteed

Level 6:  Limits 300/600
Entries: 81

Showing both comfort and four to a straight in Stud, Nick DeVenezia gets a river bet through Craig Feldherr and Bryan Trout, mucking at right.

On the run, this player still has time to show down AA and an 86, but Paul Zarcone has a better low for a chop on table 7. They split up a third player’s split queens in Stud8.

Looking for help against aces on the board: the dealer peels a face card for seat one.

The showing Aces and split sevens will get the whole pot for Fred C., center, who gets paid on the river by a weaker two pair. His opponent will search in vain for an emergency low at showdwon, but has to muck it unhappily.

Event 4: Early Action on 4

POSTED BY: cmurray

|CATEGORY: 2018, Event 4, Event 4 (Day 1)

$400+$50 H.O.R.S.E.
$25,000 Guaranteed

Level 4:  Limits 150/300
Entries: 77

Big early action on table 4 over a Stud and then Stud8 hand, all involving Juno Holt.

First Holt got cooled off in a small pot by Larry Gold, who showed down a rivered full house, deuces over threes. Nice to see that set when your two pair is weak.

Holt forced to fold.

Then, Patricia Yannuzzi brought the heat on 5th, showing a promising draw but no high, , still betting into Holt’s poor draw of an unconnected . Holt had to check/fold.

Stud8 was now announced, and now the action went crazy. Right from the start, three bets went in on third, with Larry Gold taking the lead showing the , Yannuzzi the and Holt the .

Bets and raises went in frantically until seventh, when Gold at last led, showing . The other three players all called.

Gold shows down his aggressively played rundown…

Gold announced a straight and a middle low, but Patricia has a better seven low. Larry and Patricia chopped up the big nearly 5k+ pot, very big for the early levels. Larry shakes his head at what was nearly a monster scoop.

…but Patricia had the answering low.

Event 4: HORSE-Play Begins

POSTED BY: kaelaine

|CATEGORY: 2018, Event 4, Event 4 (Day 1)

$400+$50 H.O.R.S.E.
$25,000 Guaranteed

Level 1:  Limits 50/100
Entries: 41

HORSE-play has begun in the front of the Poker Room.

The HORSE tournament is making a return to the Open series lineup for the first time since the January 2017 Winter Poker Open.  It’s also got a guarantee of $25,000 on total buy-ins which is another first.

Five games will be played in 8-hand rotations:
Hold’em
Omaha High/Low
Razz
Stud
Eight or Better (Stud High/Low)

Players get 20,000 chips to start and this is all Limit poker, so it takes a bit longer to get all the chips in the middle. Levels 1-10 are 30 minutes in duration, then beginning with Level 11, they get 40 minutes per level.

The tournament is a Freeze-Out, so no re-entries are allowed.  Late registration is open until the start of level 9 (at least 8:3opm).  This is a 2-day tournament — Day 1 will end at 16 players or 2am.  The remaining players will bag their chips and return at 12pm Saturday for Day 2.

As you may or may not have heard, the 2018 Borgata Poker Open will be running in a new temporary tournament area. Instead of the Event Center where we have been in the past, BPO tournaments will be running on tables in the Signature Room, the Poker Room, and a new Tournament Area in between.

The slot machines have been removed from this area and poker tables are in.  This new setup is just for this series and in January we’ll be back in the Event Center for the 2019 Winter Poker Open.

This new tournament area is perfectly situated between Bread and Butter on one side and the escalator to the Marketplace Eatery on the other, giving players quick and easy access to refreshments.  It’s also just a few steps to the Race and Sports Book for those who need to place a bet and the North Entrance, for those who need to step outside for some fresh air.

Online registration is closed, but on-site registration begins at 12 noon Monday, September 3rd and will remain open until midnight.  Beginning Tuesday, registration will be open from 8am to midnight daily throughout the series at the Cashier windows across from the entrance to Bobby Flay’s.

Click here and bookmark this site for links to all the information you need to navigate the 18-day Borgata Poker Open, which begins Tuesday at 11am with the first flight of the $1.5 Million Guaranteed Kick-Off Event!
