Robert Edelstein (Chicago, IL)

Robert Edelstein raises to 5,200 from under the gun and the action folds to Jared Jaffee in the cutoff position. Jaffee moves all in for his last 28,000. The player in the small blind calls and Edelstein comes along.

Both players check the {kc}{3h}{10h} flop and the dealer burns and turns the {qh}. The small blind checks and Edelstein slides his stack of about 35,000 all in. His opponent flashes his {9c}{9s} before tossing his hand into the muck.

Edelstein tables his {kh}{kd} for top set along with the king high flush draw. Jaffee shows {ad}{8d} and will need a non heart jack on the river to survive. The {6c} completes the board earning Edelstein the pot sending Jaffee to the rail.

Simon Lam is climbing the leaderboard midway through Day 2 after eliminating Jakov Klatzkin. Lam has cashed numerous times in Borgata Poker Open events and is gearing up for another deep run.

We don’t usually see Simon Lam until the bigger buy-in Borgata Poker Open events, and true to form, Lam is here in the WPT Championship. Lam started today over the chip average with 85,800 and is now trending above 200,000 after sending Jakov Klatzkin to the rail.

From under the gun, Lam raised to 4,000 and Klatzkin responded with an all-in three-bet from the cutoff for 36,900. Kane Kalas sat on the button and called Klatzkin’s all-in before action folded back to Lam. After thinking for a few moments, Lam re-shoved for nearly 120,000 total, turning the heat up on Kalas.

With about 145,000 in his own stack, Kalas contemplated his options and elected to lay his hand down. Lam was flipping with {ad}{kc} against the {10d}{10s} of Klatzkin. The {9c}{8c}{3c} board gave Lam a flush draw to go along with his two overcards. The {as} on the turn surged Lam ahead and the {10c} river completed his flush. Klatzkin thought he had won when seeing that the river gave him a set but quickly realized he was heading to the rail.

After the knockout plus the chips from Kalas, Lam is over the 200,000 mark and starting to build toward another Borgata cash.

Farid Jattin started Day 2 as the overall chip leader as done nothing but build on Day 2 as he approaches the 300,000 mark midway through Level 12.

With the immensely deep structure in play for this WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship, having a large stack gives players more room to deal with the inevitable beats and coolers that will hit over the next few days. One of the players continuing to build on Day 2 is Farid Jattin, who has picked up right where he left off on Day 1. Jattin is closing in on 300,000 and nearing the chip lead currently held by William Foxen. Both Foxen and Jattin’s respective tables are set to break before the end of the level, which is a welcome sight to their tablemates.

The payouts for this event will be posted shortly, but until then, below is a look at some of the players over the 165,000 mark in the early levels on Day 2.

William Foxen – 320,000
