Event 11
The 2016 Borgata Poker Open is a wrap and after 18 days of play, 19 trophies were awarded and more than $8 million in prize money paid to the participants, not including the secondary events and satellites!
The culmination of the series was the World Poker Tour BPO Championship event, which was live-streamed and filmed for later broadcast by the WPT. Poker Pro Jesse Sylvia came from behind, starting the final table as the short-stack, and prevailed, claiming the $821,811 in first-place prize money. His first win in a major event will result in his name being carved on the WPT Champions Cup and push his career earnings beyond $6 million. This year’s Open series also saw some other firsts. The Inaugural BPO PokerNews Cup $2,000 NLH event was the first post-championship event and Ryan van Sanford claimed the first PokerNews Cup title awarded on American soil. The first-ever hybrid Live/Online Heads Up tournament was held in the Event Center and online at BorgataPoker.com, “Battleship-style”. Matt Emmel came up just short of repeating at Heads Up Champion, finishing second to New Jersey online player Eric Schwartz.
Another first was the live-streaming of the $1,000 Six Max NLH final table, which ended in a heads-up battle between well-known pro and BorgataPoker.com Ambassador Vinny Pahuja and relatively unknown amateur player George Alberto. Alberto prevailed, claiming his first BPO title and $53,366.
A complete list of Main Events and trophy winners is below. From the BPO bloggers, @mattclark345, @TKbluffs, @Kaelaine, and @WOCPoker and players, thanks to Borgata tournament staff and the World Poker Tour for another excellent tournament series!

After more than 12 hours of play on Day 2, Evan Young entered the winner’s circle in the HORSE tournament, collecting $10,616 for the win. His heads-up battle with Borgata regular Jay Zimmet lasted nearly three hours and the lead went back and forth. In the end, a hand of RAZZ was Jay’s undoing.
Evan is a professional poker player, originally from Minnesota, who now lives in South Carolina. He hasn’t been home in a while due to traveling for poker. At the WSOP this summer, he cashed four times, including a deep run in the Main Event (118th for $49,108). This is his first time in Atlantic City, so the first tournament he’s ever played at Borgata!
“This is the best part of Atlantic City,” he said. He’s planning to try to satellite into the Championship event, so we’ll be seeing him again next week.

Playing RAZZ:
Jay Zimmet and Evan Young battled back and forth for nearly three hours before the final hand went down.
All the chips went in and Jay ended up with a full house — not good in Razz! Jay took the pot with a ten-5 low.
‘Grandpa’ Jay Zimmet finished second for $6,146. He already owns a couple of Borgata Open titles. One from the 2011 Summer Poker Open (PLO) and one from the 2011 Fall Poker Open (Stud). He battled hard for this one, but came up a bit short.
Evan Young gets the win and $10,616.

Evan Young got all-in on the turn with the board reading {ts}{9d}{2d}{kd} holding {9s}{9c} for nines-full. Jay Zimmet was holding {qd}{jc} for the nuts. “One time!” said Evan and sure enough, the {kc} on the river paired the board, giving Evan the full house and the double-up. He chipped up to about 630,000. Jay’s stack dropped to ~810,000.

Michael caught paint on 5th while Jay caught another low card. On 6th, Jay made a 9-6 low and Michael was ahead with an 8-4 low, but when they peeled their river cards, Jay improved to a 7-6 and Michael paired his Ace. Jay took the pot and the chip lead.
Michael Fishman finished in 3rd place, earning $3,352.
That was the last hand of the level, so limits were up to 30,000/60,000. Heads-up play began with Jay holding about 900,000 to Evan Young’s 540,000.

On a flop of {qh}{jc}{2c} Henry Park got all-in against Evan Young.
Henry: {kc}{6h}{4c}{2d} – bottom pair, flush draw
Evan: {ad}{qc}{js}{5c} – top two pair, useless flush draw
It was over when the {jh} came on the turn, giving Evan a full house and making a low impossible. The river was an irrelevant {5h}.
Henry Park finished in 4th place, earning $2,235.

Paying Hold’em:

Evan Young raised, Jay Zimmet 3-bet from the button, and Evan called. The flop fell {As}{ad}{9c} and Evan checked, Jay bet, and Evan called. When the {8c} came on the turn, both players checked.
River was the {5h} and again both checked. Jay rolled over pocket Queens and Evan mucked his hand. His stack dropped to about 175,000 while Jay chipped up to about 300,000.
