David Paredes has increased his chip lead early in this heads up battle, putting even more pressure on the short stacked Jim Gilbert.
We imagine this heads up battle is going to be just that, a battle as both players have been playing extremely well over the last few levels. Jim Gilbert has had his back against the wall a few times and recovered each time and his back is again against the wall after losing the first meaningful pot after the break.
That hand was picked up pre flop, with Gilbert opening the button to 1,000,000. David Paredes called to see the {9s}{7h}{6c} flop and then check-called a bet of 1,100,000. The {7c} paired the board on the turn and both players checked to see the river.
The {Ac} completed a potential backdoor flush draw and again, both players checked, with Paredes showing {As}{6h} to take down the pot.
It’s a relatively small loss for Gilbert but he’s now playing just over 20 big blinds, with his stack getting shorter once the blind and antes go up again in just ten minutes.
