Level 5 (Blinds 150/300/50)
In all reality, if anyone could actually “Be Like Mike,” they’d literally jump at the opportunity. But since nobody in the Event Center is sinking last second jumpers over Craig Ehlo, how about being like Dan Wach (Boonton, NJ)? All Dan has done is finish runner-up in this event two years in a row, earning over $435,000 combined.
First it was the 2012 Borgata Poker Open, where Wach bested a field of 3,705 to finish second to Ben Bianco. Dan would earn what was his largest ever tournament cash, bringing home $200,793. Wach would go onto record seven more results over the next year, before Event 1 of the 2013 Borgata Poker Open rolled back around. This time the tournament would attract 4,482 total entries, and once again Dan would find himself heads up for the trophy. While he fell short of the win again, he earned $235,627 after losing to Maksim Rosenfeld (Miami, FL).
The feat that Wach accomplished, running so deep in fields of that size, is something that will likely never be seen again. It was business as usual for Dan as his picture was being taken, three-betting in position and taking down a pot pre-flop, slowly building up from the 20,000 starting stack.
