The 2016 Borgata Poker Open is a wrap and after 18 days of play, 19 trophies were awarded and more than $8 million in prize money paid to the participants, not including the secondary events and satellites! The culmination of the series was the World Poker Tour BPO Championship event, which was live-streamed and filmed for later broadcast by the WPT. Poker Pro Jesse Sylvia came from behind, starting the final table as the short-stack, and prevailed, claiming the $821,811 in first-place prize money. His first win in a major event will result in his name being carved on the WPT Champions Cup and push his career earnings beyond $6 million.
This year’s Open series also saw some other firsts. The Inaugural BPO PokerNews Cup $2,000 NLH event was the first post-championship event and Ryan van Sanford claimed the first PokerNews Cup title awarded on American soil. The first-ever hybrid Live/Online Heads Up tournament was held in the Event Center and online at BorgataPoker.com, “Battleship-style”. Matt Emmel came up just short of repeating at Heads Up Champion, finishing second to New Jersey online player Eric Schwartz.
Another first was the live-streaming of the $1,000 Six Max NLH final table, which ended in a heads-up battle between well-known pro and BorgataPoker.com Ambassador Vinny Pahuja and relatively unknown amateur player George Alberto. Alberto prevailed, claiming his first BPO title and $53,366.
A complete list of Main Events and trophy winners is below. On behalf of Borgata, we would like to thank all the participants for making the 2016 Borgata Poker Open a great success and congratulate all the winners. From the BPO bloggers, @mattclark345, @TKbluffs, @Kaelaine, and @WOCPoker and players, thanks to Borgata tournament staff and the World Poker Tour for another excellent tournament series!

Borgata and the state of New Jersey have approved “Adjusted Payouts” for tournaments and this new policy will be implemented for the 2016 Borgata Poker Open! Adjusted Payouts made their debut during the DeepStacks Challenge Series in late August and immediately became a big hit.
“Adjusted Payouts”, commonly referred to as “chops”, will be allowed during most tournaments. A few designated events, such as World Poker Tour (WPT) televised events, will NOT allow adjusted payouts.
There are some restrictions on the adjusting of payouts and all players should be aware of these rules before making a deal.
1) Once all remaining players agree to an Adjusted Payout, they will notify the poker supervisor of the adjustments with player name, finish position, and amount to be paid, and the tournament will end. Players will not be allowed to continue playing for a reserved amount and/or trophy.
2) Adjusted Payouts are limited to the number of players designated on the official payouts. This means if the official prize structure shows the final nine players will get paid, it is not possible for the final ten players to chop (no paying the “bubble”).
3) The tournament clock will NOT be stopped while players discuss Adjusted Payouts.
4) Tournament Staff will protect the rights of players who do not wish to adjust the payouts. Once any player says they do not want to make a deal, further discussion will be halted.
All existing rules regarding tournament payouts and tax forms remain in effect.
– Photo ID and My Borgata card must be presented to collect tournament winnings.
– For payouts over $5,000, one additional form of identification is required and tax forms must be completed.
– Residents of foreign countries without a U.S. tax treaty will be subject to withholding.
The new Adjusted Payout policy will be in effect during the 2016 Borgata Poker Open, which begins September 6th. Borgata tournaments already offer great value and now they are “chop-able”!
The kickoff event of the 2016 Borgata Poker Open begins tomorrow and the finishing touches are being put on the Event Center now. Live Satellites are running today in the Borgata Poker Room – the last one begins at 5pm — and registration is at the Poker Room cage. The schedule for live satellites beginning Tuesday can be found here.
Online satellites are also running at BorgataPoker.com.
$45 Satellites are running daily at 7:30pm EDT where 1 out of every 14 players will earn a seat in the kickoff event. $5 qualifiers are also available where 1 in every 10 players wins an entry into the $45 satellites.
More than 100 players earned their way into the Winter Poker Open kickoff event via online satellites and several parlayed their entries into real money in the WPO opening event.
For players who have not yet registered on BorgataPoker.com, there is a special ‘Last Longer’ promotion running. Check it out to see how setting up your BorgataPoker.com account can earn you your Event 1 buy-in back!
There are just seven days remaining until the 2016 Borgata Poker Open kicks off in the Event Center with the $2 Million Guaranteed Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em event! Long lines are expected at registration for Event 1, so take advantage of online registration, which remains open until this weekend. On-site registration will be available beginning Monday, September 5th from 12 noon until midnight, in the Poker Room. Registration will re-open Tuesday morning in the Event Center Lobby at 8am and remain open until midnight daily throughout the series.
There are six starting flights for this event, spread out over the first three days of the series. Flights A & B will run Tuesday at 11am and 4pm, respectively. Wednesday will see flights C & D take off at the same times. Thursday, which is expected to be the busiest, will run flights E & F at 10am and 7pm. Seating is limited, so register early!
Like last year, the final table of this event will be Live Streamed from the Borgata Event Center on Saturday, September 10th.
Last year, Ferderico Ottenio (Brooklyn, NY) battled his way through more than 3,900 entrants, coming from behind on Day 3 to take the win and $325,127. That was not an easy feat considering that final table featured many tough players including Sirous Jamshidi, Will ‘the Thrill’ Failla, and Chris Csik.
This year the BPO will see the return of many favorite tournaments along with the addition of some new, highly anticipated events. The 3rd Annual Mike ‘Little Man’ Sica Memorial Seniors No Limit Hold’em event will run on Sunday, September 11th. Each entry will include a $20 donation to the American Cancer Society in Mike’s honor.
Other returning favorites include the Almighty Million. This event carries a $1 Million Guarantee on total buy-ins and players start with 100,000 chips — the largest starting stack offered in any BPO event. Borgata will Live Stream the final table of the Almighty Million again this year. We’ll also see the return of the popular Super Stack Elevator NLH event and the $1,000 Six Max NLH event, which carries a $200,000 Guarantee. The SixMax event always draws a field packed with poker talent and this final table will be Live Streamed as well!
For the first-time ever, the Heads-Up tournament will be played online at BorgataPoker.com, with the participants live in the Event Center, “Battleship-style”! This event is limited to a maximum of 64 participants and registration will take place online at BorgataPoker.com, beginning Sunday, September 11th. The bracket draw will take place live in the Event Center when registration closes at 1pm on Saturday, September 17th. Play will begin at 2pm. Additional information on this ground-breaking event can be found here.
Another highly anticipated new event is the $2,000 + $150 Inaugural PokerNew Cup NLH tournament. This event will be the first post-Championship event, running Tuesday and Wednesday, September 20th and 21st.
Of course the headliner of this series is the World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open Championship. There is a $3 Million Guarantee on total buy-ins for this $3,300 + $200 No Limit Hold’em event. The final table of six will be recorded for later broadcast by the WPT and Live Streamed on Friday, September 23rd.
David ‘Gaucho’ Paredes (Brookline, MA) battled his way through the field of more than 1,000 entrants to win the 2015 WPT BPO Championship event and more than $723,000. He joined the WPT Champions club in a big way — this was his first major title, but pushed his accumulated tournament earnings well beyond $2 Million. It was not an easy victory and Paredes had to come from behind to beat chip leader James Gilbert. That star-studded final table also included Joe Kuether, Maurice Hawkins, Jerry Payne, and Roman Valerstein. In addition to the prize money and trophy, Paredes also took home a watch from WPT sponsor Hublot.
Through 19 trophy events and $6.7 Million in tournament guarantees, the Borgata Poker Blog will be here bringing you all the action from the first riffle to the final river card! There is also a full slate of secondary events, with cash tournaments, survivors, and satellites into the main events, on tap during the series. Click here to see the schedule of secondary events.
The dates for the 2016 Borgata Poker Open have been announced! The 18-day series will run Tuesday, September 6 through Friday, September 23. The preliminary Main Event schedule is available here. There will be 19 trophy events including a $500+$60 Deep Stack NLH kickoff event with a $2 Million Guarantee!
All the favorites are back including the Super Stack Elevator, $1,000 Six Max NLH, and the Almighty Stack with a $1 Million Guarantee! Also returning this year are the 3rd Annual Mike Sica Memorial Seniors NLH event and the Charity Series of Poker NLH event.
The $3,300+$200 World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open Championship carries a $3 Million Guarantee and the final table will be live streamed.
