Event 7 of the Borgata Poker Open was the $350+$50 PLO event drawing a total of 62 entries creating a prize pool of $21,049. When the dust settled Matt Zimmerman was the last man standing. Zimmerman won his first Borgata title here in April’s Spring Poker Open taking down the $300 NLH Deeper Stack event for over $14,000.
He proved that he was not a one trick pony putting on an impressive performance here in the PLO event. The final table was played at a grueling pace and the pots were few and far between. Zimmerman managed to chip away at his opponents and once he moved into the chip lead he never looked back.
With the elimination of Anthony Luong in third place heads up play was set begin. Before the cards went back in the air the final two players began to discuss a deal. Matthew Zimmerman was holding a stack of 642,000 which was nearly double that of his opponent Jose Mendez who had 288,000.
After some brief discussion they came to an agreement in which Mendez will take second place and $4,868. Zimmerman will earn his Borgata poker title and $6,500 for his Event 7 victory. He is having himself quite the series with three cashes now under his belt and tells us he will back tomorrow to take his shot in Event 8.
